Ceramic coat your wheels at home! Keep your fresh wheels fresh!

After dropping a chunk of money on the perfect set of wheels for your car you are probably thinking… I hope I don’t curb these. And while that is a concern.. a more sensible concern would be keeping these wheel looking as good as the day they arrived.

You want to keep them as fresh as they day they showed up?!? Then follow along!

The best option would be to take the wheels out and have them professional coated… I am not a patient person, I just went ahead and installed the wheels. But still always thinking I should have coated these wheel. And that brings us to today, so let’s do what we should have done when the wheels arrived, while saving a bit of money and learning a new skill.

Time frame

If you are a better person than me and are doing this with fresh wheels you won’t need to set aside as much time. I’d estimate 1 hour. My wheels were in need of a good cleaning and I decided to remove them from the car to thoroughly protect them and this really extended then time. With all the extra work I think I spent around 2 and half hours. The design of your wheels will also play a part in these.

How to

If you are smart or patient person, unlike myself. You may have ordered your kit before your wheels arrived and if you did… you be ready to clean, prep and ceramic coat. If this is you can scroll down and skip a few paragraphs.

For those of you who forgot to order your products or just couldn’t wait you have a little more work to do. And the place we need to start is removing the wheels. This will allow us to thoroughly clean are wheels for the best application of the ceramic coating.

While it is possible to do this with the wheels bolts on. I decided to make it a little easier by removing them.

First we will start with your favorite wheel cleaner in an area away from direct sunlight. Allow it to soak in and then agitate it with a wheel cleaning brush to really get that surface cleaned. Once the surface is clean we will apply Gyeon Prep spray we will be ready to lay down a coating.

To prep these for ceramic coating we need to do a proper cleaning. Follow that off with a deep cleaner agent like Gyeon’s Iron remover.

Follow up our cleaning with Gyeon’s Prep to further prepare and degrease the wheel surface for the coating.

Drying is next on our list.

Opening the box of Gyeon Rim Evo ceramic coat you will find a glass bottle full of ceramic coat, foam and four microfiber cloths to apply the coating. Start off by leaving the cap on and shaking up the bottle to mix the coating. Then you can open the bottle and apply a liberal amount onto the microsuede with the applicator foam below it.

Next we see all the items that come inside our Gyeon Rim Evo ceramic coating kit.

Now we can set the suede cloth on the top of the applicator and dab the coating on.

You can apply a coating amount as shown above and head towards your wheel.

The foam applicator will make it easy to apply to wheels with many contours. Once you have applied the ceramic coating. Once the coating is applied in an area you can take your microfiber towel and wipe it off. If you forget to wipe off the product you might a have a hazy or streaky section of the wheel. If this happens, I found that applying another layer could easily remedy this issue.

Applying a coating to the sides of the wheel spoke.

Then on to the top and opposite side of the wheel spoke.

Come through with a microfiber towel to clean off the applied ceramic coating immediately.

You can continue on to the rest of the wheel in the same fashion.

You can now continue this routine across all four wheels. If you are looking for a touch more protection you can wait one hour and apply another layer to your wheels. This product can also be used on brake calipers and if you have your wheels off it’s pretty easy to clean and coat them too.

And the final product should look something like this!

And that is basically it, you are done! This coating can last up to 18 months or about 28k miles.
