These must be those parts I need to keep the car running... Nevermind… they aren't. Let's install them!

If it hasn’t been established yet, this is a project of passion for the most part.. Every now and then an upgrade is a necessity to keep the car running, like brakes or axles but I still try and find an upgrade within them . This project is unlike any other I have put together, I have always been a guy for a lowered but practical car that can hug the corners and have a few aesthetic upgrades to improve the oem lines. Today’s upgrades will be bringing a touch of exterior styling to go with the unseen suspension and engine upgrades.

I have always done my best to keep my upgrades while being useless for a daily, in a practical budget. Which means constant checking through eBay posts, Facebook marketplace and Subaru forums. A lucky visit to the for sale boards found a single part that I was fearing would be impossible to find in my budget. Thus begins our chapter for this round of mods.

Well what is that part or parts that I was thinking would be so difficult to source? Those would be the super stylish Oem Euro Forester fender flares! Built in Hungry for the European market they aren’t a very common sight in American, whether on a Forester or for sale. I had originally been looking a cheap eBay diy way to put flares on the Forester but after seeing a set of these I knew they were the real answer.

Oh yeah!

Oh yeah!

Test fitting fun!

A little bit more coverage for the wider tires.

Once they arrived I noted how odd the material is, they are soft and squishy. Much like many of the rear deck lid spoilers of plenty of 80s cars. I was curious if they could be painted and would it stick? A quick drive to the local autobody shop said it could be done and after three days of eternity they were finally back within my hands. Just like a kid on Christmas I couldn’t wait to get them on and that night in the fading light I got them adhered, snapped a quick picture and went off to bed. Excited to see how they would look in the morning light!

Another lucky strike from the refresh browser button happened, as I struck a seller with two items I had been looking for since I purchased the Forester. After getting the flares I was pretty sure my luck was spent but here we go again! Now the waiting game starts again while these amazing items make there treacherous travels across the states to my door…

What is behind door number one…? The well loved and excellent looking Forester Sports grill! Ever since Subaru brought us the 07-08 Forester sports I have been a sucker for it’s stunning oem styling. Finally with enough patience I was able to find a used unit.

Nothing much to it’s install, you remove the clips underneath the hood and then pull forward to pop it out of the front bumper. Now you can take a few feet back and enjoy the view! What a change this adds to the car.. I was a little sad to see the old grill no longer on, but I had been waiting for this moment for a looong time.

And behind door number two… A brand new car… err, no. A big ol’ hood scoop! Well.. Not that big but much larger than factory, this would be the 02-03 Jdm STi hood scoop. Nothing wrong with the little factory unit but with the larger turbo and intercooler I figured why not add more airflow.

Bigger is better? In this dept, I think so.

Another visit to the body shop and and the hood scoop was painted and ready to be mounted up. It bolts right to the factory locations and once again is very straightforward. Nothing quite like Oem upgrades to really make the car standout but not over the top.

Little scoop!

Half and half.

And that is a wrap on the beautification of the Forester this summer… Looking forward to the upcoming fall and what projects will be coming around. Stay tuned for more oddball mods to do to your daily Forester! Plenty of hi-jinks to come!
