Kartboy's short shift! Shift it.... shift it real good!
Hey!.. Welcome to #modmonday! Where I modify a part on my car and give you my insight within it! This week we look at @k4rt3oy 5 speed short shifter for my 06 Forester XT for the last month.
We often overlook the car parts we interact with on a day to day basis when modding our cars. The steering wheel, shift knob, seat, key etc. But these daily parts can give you the most satisfaction through every drive. Enter the Kartboy short shifter!
Even a tall shifter can be helped by a nice short shifter!
Having installed this on my STi almost 6 years ago I had an idea how it would change the car but I had forgotten just the difference it would make. With as much as a 40% reduction in shift throw you will notice it right away.. and again, and yet again. That pretty much sums up this mod, it makes shifting great again!

Built here in the U s of A it is made from high strength 4130 Chromoly steel for extra durability. I purchased mine secondhand and even as a older unit it is still in great shape and shows little to no signs of wear. Add Kartboy's shift bushing kit and you might never leave your car.
There is not much to the install as you pop the old shifter out and replace the components over to the new shortened and improved shifter. I have found a few that find the linkage might hit the shift plate surround but it can easily be modified to fix this.

I have around 600 miles of shifts with the new shifter in place and I can't believe just how much it renewed my love of the car and how much I enjoy time in it. I had been a bit disappointed with my new clutch and the extra stiffness it added, but this made me forget all about that.
