PTP Lava turbo blanket! Keeping your turbo company on those cold nights.

Hey!... And welcome to #modmonday. Today we look at an unsung hero that hides deep in the engine bay and keeps the turbo company. @ptpturboblankets has been helping the STi spool up for the last 4 years and still looks great when you can see it!

My main reason for this purchase was to keep the tmic cooler and drop under hood temps. Now I know there is much more than meets the eye, many more significant benefits are gained when adding a turbo blanket to your setup.

Turbo blankets help keep the heat in the hotside of turbo helping it spool up quicker. The Ptp turbo blanket is constructed with an outer layer of from pulverized volcanic lava rocks to keep up to 1800F direct heat or 2500F radiant heat. This keeps the radiant heat from overwhelming the cold side of the turbo. With the air charge temps staying lower you will see lower intake manifold temps and make more power than a heat soaked turbo.

Two years ago I swapped my turbo out and had a moment to take a look at the Ptp turbo blanket. It was in just as good shape as the day I installed it, just slightly dirtier. Hard to see in the photos but another 2 years later still looking great with zero issues.

Install is very straight forward and if you have an Oem turbo they likely have a pre-cut unit that fits very snugly. After placing the blanket in the proper orientation you run a wire tie around the metal buttons to keep it nice and tight. They now appear to have spring clamps which would make this even easier! Might have to order those if I get another blanket for the Forester!
